　　A synthetic surface track was used in 1972 where 11 world records and 20 Olympic records were set. Since then, the synthetic surface has taken the place of cinder track and has been acknowledged as the fastest track for sprinters and is also the preference of long distance runners.

　　当塑胶跑道于1972年开始被使用时，运动员们就在这一跑道上创下了11项世界纪录和20项奥运会纪录。此后，塑胶跑道取代了煤渣跑道，被公认为是可以让短跑选手们跑得最快的跑道。当然，它们也同样是长跑选手的首选。
