(BEIJING, August 19) - Chinese youngsters Chen Ruolin and Wang Xin will attempt to reclaim China's Olympic title in the Women's 10m Platform at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the one event where a Diving gold medal has eluded them at the previous two Olympic Games. This event arrays 29 divers in a competition that begins on Wednesday, August 20, and concludes Thursday.

World No. 1 Chen has been having a good year, winning gold in this event at the 16th FINA World Cup in Beijing earlier this year. Her margin of victory was more than 44 points. Chen's compatriot Wang Xin is the reigning world champion, but the World No.2 has missed the opportunity to stand on the top of the podium at major international events this season.

The flag bearer for Mexico, Paola Espinosa dropped all her 3m Springboard events at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to concentrate on the 10m Platform events. She came 12th in the Women's 10m Platform at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games but has improved since then, clinching gold over two legs of the World Series this year (Sheffield and Tijuana).

Australian high school student, Melissa Wu is a dark horse. She made her international debut just two years ago and has already snatched one gold and one silver in this event at Grand Prix circuits (Canada and Germany) this season.

2003 world champion in this event, Emilie Heymans of Canada, is trying to claim her first Olympic medal in Individual events. The Canadian has collected one silver and one bronze in the Women's 10m Synchronized Platform at the two previous Olympic Games (Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004).

Alexandra Croak of Australia competed in Artistic Gymnastics at Sydney 2000. She retired from Artistic Gymnastics soon after the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England, and took up Diving in 2003. She was selected for the Australian Olympic team after coming second in the Women's 10m Platform at the Australian national trial.
