Table Tennis Day 9 Preview: Fantastic matches in store

  (BEIJING, August 19) -- The Table Tennis Women's Singles competition will reach the quarterfinal round on Thursday, while the Men's Singles competition will stage its third and fourth rounds.

  In the fourth round of Women's Singles, the match between World No.1 Zhang Yining of China and World No. 12 Fukuhara Ai of Japan will be fun to watch. Wang Nan of China will also face a difficult fight against the Republic of Korea's Park Mi-young, who is a solid defensive player and has proved in the previous rounds and in the Team event that she is not easily defeated. World No. 2 Guo Yue, compared with her two teammates, will have the easiest match, against Li Jiao of the Netherlands.

  Another defensive player of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kyung-ah, will face Wang Chen of the United States. Two Singaporeans, World No. 6 Li Jiawei and No. 9 Feng Tianwei, will play Lin Ling of Hong Kong, China, and Li Jie of the Netherlands, respectively.   The winners of the fourth-round matches will advance to the quarterfinals.

  Thursday's Men's Singles matches will be of the highest level, since the 16 top-ranked players will enter the third round and play with the winners from the second round. World No.5 Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus, No. 17 Kalinikos Kreanga of Greece and No. 20 Michael Maze of Denmark, who did not participate in the Team events, will make their first appearance at the Peking University Gymnasium. Competition will be fierce, and the matches will be fantastic to watch.
