The first semifinal match was lopsided. The Georgian duo failed to reproduce the level in which it performed at against the Netherlands in its quarterfinal match. The second set mirrored the first, and the US tandem looked comfortable. A strong attack from Rogers gave the US an 11-2 lead, with a block from Dalhausser winning the set with the score finishing on 21-13.

Dalhausser and Rogers were upset in their opening pool match by Latvia's Martins Plavins and Aleksandrs Samoilovs. They recovered from this initial setback and reached the final by winning their remaining five matches.

The second semifinal between the two Brazilian teams was closer, with fourth-seeded Magalhaes and Araujo leading by four points early on in the first set but Santos and Rego managed to catch up.

However, an error by Santos in the dying stages gave the first set to Magalhaes and Araujo, with a final score of 22-20.

Magalhaes and Araujo edged ahead in the second set, leading the game 19-15. Santos and Rego rallied and closed the gap to 18-19. However, Magalhaes and Araujo earned two critical points to wrap up the match at 21-18.
