(BEIJING, August 12) -- The last round of the pool stage competition in the Olympic Women's Football tournament saw teams pulling out their guns and firing goals. A total of 20 goals were scored in the six games that were played tonight.

The dust in the so-called "Group of Death" was finally settled. Brazil cruised to the quarterfinals after a 3-1 victory over Nigeria, where Cristiane scored the first hat-trick of the tournament.

Germany grabbed second place by defeating the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) 1-0.

Nigeria stayed anchored to the foot of the group after three consecutive losses.

China's 2-0 victory over Argentina helped it top group E with seven points, followed by Sweden with six points.

The two teams that will advance to the quarterfinals from group G are Norway and the United States, with six points apiece.

Despite having only one solitary point from its first two matches, Japan rebounded and posted an emphatic 5-1 victory over Norway in its last match, which sends them to the quarterfinals as one of the two best "third-placed teams".

Canada will also play in the quarterfinals since its one draw and one victory has secured it enough points. The DPRK, who was placed third in group F, was eliminated from the tournament.

The quarterfinals of the Olympic Women's Football tournament are scheduled to kick off on August 15.
