  BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Michael Phelps of the United States broke the world record to win the men's 200m individual medley gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games here on Friday.

  Phelps clocked in the winning time of 1:54.23 to better his own world record of 1:54.80 set up on July 4, 2008.

  Laszlo Cseh of Hungary took the silver in 1:56.52 and American Ryan Lochte finished third in 1:56.53.
