(BEIJING, August 17) -- China's Yan Zi and Zheng Jie delighted the home crowd by defeating Alona Bondarenko and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-2, 6-2 in the Women's Doubles bronze medal match at the Olympic Green Tennis Center on Sunday, August 17. Yan and Zheng were simply too strong for their opponents. They ran away with the last four games of the first set, converting both of their break point opportunities. Although the Bondarenko sisters broke at the start of the second set, Yan and Zheng took the next five games to ensure victory and win a second Olympic medal in Tennis for China. Li Ting and Sun Tiantian won China's first Olympic Tennis medal at Athens four years ago, winning gold in this event, while the Bondarenko sisters were bidding to win Ukraine's first Tennis medal. |
