(BEIJING, August 20) -- Shanaze Reade of Great Britain, favored to win gold in the inaugural Olympic BMX event at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, already has her sights set on another goal. She wants to become the first person to win gold medals in both BMX and Cycling Track at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Reade, two-time defending BMX world champion, has already proven her prowess on the track. She has won two world championships in the Women's Team Sprint with Victoria Pendleton after taking up Cycling Track to keep fit for BMX. Women's Team Sprint only has two riders.

"I've only done track 12 weeks, so it's not long," said Reade, adding, "but I set my goals so high that it would have been good to do both (in Beijing). But I can't complain, there was only one spot for Great Britain in the Women's Sprint and Victoria deserves that."

While Reade is already talking 2012, she knows she must first perform at her best in Beijing.

"It would be arrogant for me to say that I am the best (here), or I am my biggest competition, but to beat my own mind is what I need to do," said Reade.

Reade has prepared herself through rigorous work in a heat chamber devised to mimic conditions hotter and more challenging than Beijing. Driving her intense preparation is the knowledge that other riders have targeted her as the competitor to beat. Reade, however, embraces the challenge.

"I love it. Pressure is my best friend," Reade said. "I think that if everyone at the Olympic Games thinks I am the target, then that can only make me go faster."
